Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna (SSA) is a public institution located in Pisa, Italy, whose main mission is to train highly selected, gifted young scholars for scientific research and the teaching profession. It is organized in six Institutes, among which is the Institute of Communication, Information and Perception Technologies (TeCIP), whose personnel will develop the TOWS project. The TeCIP Insti-tute includes around 150 research people, of which 10 professors and has an average yearly outcome of around 100 publications and 20 patents. The research conducted at TeCIP has a strong link be-tween pure academic culture and industrial applications, which comes from the established mission of SSA towards applied research. TeCIP has a long tradition of coordinating European Projects (in FP7 it has been the coordinator of the Integrated Project HYDRONET and of the STREP COCONUT, ARAKNES, LAMPETRA, and MULTIPART). The TeCIP Institute ranked 1st in the national ANVUR-MIUR evaluation of the quality of the research and ranked 9th in the Young World University ranking by Times Higher Education (THE).
